Jeep is a stylish and iconic brand with a timeless design and a long history of endurance. It is the epitome of freedom, luxury and perfection in all ends.

It is the reason why, for the past 80 years, the Jeep has remained the most uncompromising off-roader and the number one choice of off-road thrill-seekers and daily riders.

Because of its powerful performance, ultimate comfort and low maintenance cost, the Jeep models have made their mark over the years.

Are you one of the many Jeep lovers out there? If so, what do you think are the iconic Jeep SUVs of all time?

Here is what we think. Let’s take a look at the five most iconic Jeeps of all time in our list.

1986-1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ

The first on our list is the 1986-1995 Jeep Wranglers YJ, which caused quite a stir in the SUV market when it was originally introduced. This Jeep model effectively preserved the design of the preceding CJ series while maintaining Jeep’s legacy.

The YJ substituted circular elements favoring more aggressive square ones, like boxy headlamps and sharper hood angles. This model piqued the interest of thrill seekers since it provided the next level of off-roading adventure and comfort on regular trips.

Even though its name resembles the modern-day Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, the YJ model is the one that started it all.

The YJ, the second generation of the CJ series, was redesigned to cater to a larger market of daily drivers while maintaining off-roading capability.

The re-engineered Jeep YJ series had lower ground clearance and a broader stance for more stable driving.

1972-1975 Jeep CJ-5 and CJ-6

The second on our list is the 1972 model Jeep CJ-5 and its predecessor CJ-6. The CJ stands for Civilian Jeep, whose design prototype greatly resembled battlefield military Jeeps of World War II.

The CJ-1 became well-known for being the first commercially available automobile with four-wheel drive.

By the time the Jeep CJ-5 was introduced in the 1950s, the lineup had undergone several modifications.

The CJ-five became the most recent version built to be spurred by Jeeps’ methods during the Korean War, thanks to the direction of a new firm owner. The CJ-6 was released simultaneously as its siblings, with an extended layout that allowed for a non-obligatory second row of seats.

The CJ-five became well-known far into the 1970s, earning it the definition of having one of the longest production runs in Jeep history. By 1972, the CJ-five was ready for a makeover. The Jeep CJ-five had all-new engines, ranging from a four-cylinder to a favoured V6.

From 1972 through 1975, this model was released in several unique versions, including the Renegade and the ultra-rare Super Jeep.

The addition of air conditioning, digital ignition, radios, and other driving force conveniences made this Jeep series more appealing during this period.

1997 TO 2007 JEEP WRANGLER TJ

Technically, the second-generation Jeep Wrangler TJ has little resemblance to the CJ-7 or the forgettable YJ (the first-gen Wrangler). In reality, most accounts indicate that up to 80% of the Wrangler TJ’s components were brand new and had nothing to do with the CJ period. This Wrangler, then, was its own sort of Jeep, even though it looked just like the ones before it.

It certainly harkened back to those glorious days in terms of styling. The round headlights, up-front design, fold-down windshield, and of course the iconic grille; it was as if the spirit of the endeavor had been revitalized.

Jeep understood that the Wrangler TJ’s on-road ride and handling were equally as crucial as this SUV’s ability to cross boulder-strewn pathways and streams. The TJ represented a conclusion that customers wanted to drive the Wrangler on a daily basis because of how it looked and because of its capabilities. To that aim, the Wrangler TJ’s leaf springs were replaced with coil springs all around to enhance ride and handling.

That didn’t mean it didn’t suffer in the wild. Indeed, the Wrangler TJ had better off-road characteristics such as increased axle articulation and ground clearance, among other things. The TJ also served as the foundation for the Rubicon model, an ultra-capable crawler with Dana 44 axles, 31-inch off-road tires, 4-wheel disc brakes, and other modifications.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 (2019)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was first presented in the 1990s to replace the CJ-5 and 6. The SRT8, on the other hand, had different plans. The entire notion of a Jeep altered, and despite the significant revamp, Jeep owners fell in love with it.

It all began with the frame! Jeep was the first to develop a unibody SUV instead of the traditional body on solid frame construction. Yes, that’s correct! The Grand Cherokee was a unibody vehicle! This was previously only seen in smaller passenger cars such as coupes and sedans! However, its design was unique. It was fortified and reinforced. It was intricate enough to accomplish everything you wanted it to, yet it was also comfy.

With the SRT8, the dynamic of off-roading was comfortably altered. Instead of practicality and off-road capability, the Grand Cherokee became all about performance. The 2019 model featured a massive Hemi V8 engine that produces over 475 horsepower. A phenomenal amount of power! If not for the Trackhawk variant, the SRT8 would have been the quickest in its class.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4X4

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon combines the most desirable characteristics of two of Jeep’s best-selling models of all time: the Rubicon and the Unlimited. Each adds a unique flare to an instant iconic model.

The Wrangler Rubicon was an off-road vehicle that debuted in 2003. It was billed as the “most competent vehicle ever built by the Jeep Brand,” and it came equipped with both performance and style boosting features.

The Wrangler Unlimited, which debuted a year later, provided a more pleasant ride for passengers, with expanded leg room, larger storage capacity, higher towing capability, and an overall focus on comfort.

The Wrangler Unlimited, which was based on an older military vehicle known as the Jeep TJ, was nearly a foot longer and provided a smooth ride on the highway.

The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited blends the latter’s larger wheelbase with the former’s off-road center of gravity.

Bottom Line

These are by far the most iconic Jeeps of all time, and it has made it pretty clear that all great achievements require time. When the first military design Jeep was introduced, it was limited to the battlefield and army usage.

Slowly the company took the manufacturing to mass scale and made it available to common people with incredible redesigning. Then over time, the Jeep remodelled its SUV to keep the appeal among the riders in the SUV market.

The Jeep has upped the ante and is delivering futuristic lineups on the SUV market to stay on the race.

The models like Jeep Compass, Jeep Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler are examples. And with the First Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Jeep has become the inspiration for many other automakers to design environmental-friendly vehicles.
